Benchmarking Resources

Understand Benchmarking

The California Building Performance Resources Hub offers several pathways for building owners and managers to learn about and complete building benchmarking, a requirement for most large buildings in California and one of the first steps in improving your building’s performance.

Benchmarking Tools and Platforms

Energy Star Portfolio Manager

ENERGY STAR Portfolio Manager (ESPM) is the free EPA tool used to track and report building energy use. It is the required platform for AB 802 state compliance reporting and is accepted by all California city programs. All Hub partner platforms connect with ESPM — so setting up your ESPM account is always the first step.

USGBC ARC

USGBC's performance platform for tracking energy, water, waste, transportation, and human experience. Best suited for buildings pursuing LEED O+M certification or Arc recognition.
